I agree with a few others, I have apparently spent 210,000 kurzick faction on amber, but I only have 10k towards the title now, even with the update.

I would also like to see a "refund" for the faction spent before update. Seeing how they now give you faction towards the track for trading in for amber.

200k faction before this spent on amber, and none of it counted towards the skills. Why is it whenever arenanet have some huge, hyped up addition to the game, they manage to implement it horribly.

That Aura of Holy Light would be Godly on a Rt/D Spirit Strength build.

I think it was a mistake to tie the new Factions skills to Luxon/Kurzick alliance title. For skills that are PvE only it seems absurd that the acquasition of the skills is through a (mainly) PvP title.

I ABed with a previous guild on the Luxon side and had spent 65k toward that guild , as well as trading for 87 Jadeite (which I still have in storage) so my faction earned is well over the 100k for the skills .

I am now in a Kurzick guild that doesn't care about faction and to have to grind out 100k in Kurzick faction in rediculous.

What about people that aren't in guilds , are they to be discriminated against ?

I think Anet would have been better advised to tie the skills to the protector title or even skill quests or missions.

What about the people that don't own Factions or Nightfall ?

Also agree that it shouldn't be tied...but remember they mentioned that changes will be made to these pve skills they are in a "testing" stage. I just hope that they are able to tie them to an attribute line within the professions. Still its nice seeing them have to be earned though faction, just not agreeing with the dmg/effectiveness of them though a title track.

Although the Paragon skill is very nice looking I have to agree with several posts. I have turned in over 1,000,000 faction for amber (over the past year) and If I had any hint that those points were going for something other than a town or Amber then I would have changed my priorities.

The Amount needed to maximize the Ranks in Friends of the "X" does not seem to be worth the effort anyways. Id rather just play the game and enjoy time spent doing that. At least when earning my Sunspear ranks, the titles were within grasp and did not take a long time earning them.

I appreciate the attempt to provide us with new pve skills outside of nightfall. But really, why do they even have to be tied to titles at all? Especially titles that are as tedious as the faction titles.

I can get max sunspear quite easily within two days on a character. And in a few hours I can get rank 9. So it is quite easy (if boring) to increase the effectiveness of the sunspear skills.

Since I have 0k faction on either of the faction titles (and I'm willing to bet that many people haven't gotten the first level of the faction titles, unlike the sunspear title track), it would take me a long, long time to get to the max level. Sure it's account-wide, but it's still a long time, and I have two accounts.

Furthermore, factions has been out a long time now. If they were going to add these skills they should have done this at the start of the game. Not when most people are finished with it. I've already brought all my characters through factions, accomplished all my aims, and spent 137k kurzick faction (on one account) on amber. I have nothing else I want to do there. Now I have to return to do nothing but grind for weeks to get some good skills?

Not to mention that it almost feels insulting to not have our past faction counted towards the titles now that getting amber does count. There was utterly no incentive for many players to transfer faction to an alliance that they didn't have. So why would they? Now it feels we've been punished for this decision. And they gave us no hint that they were doing this. I bought some Kurzick armor just recently... at least if they told us I could have waited so getting the amber counted.

What's next? Making PvE only skills that are based on the drunkard title? The treasure hunter title? If these skills have to be based on titles, don't base them all on different titles, especially ones that are so much work!

Now, in PvE at least, those who grind more have the advantage over casual players or those who don't want to have to grind many different titles. And I expect to see more skills linked to more titles in gw:en. Skill over time spent? Not in PvE.

As much as I hate to come down on a generally cool update, I am another one of the countless individuals who used all his faction for amber/jadeite, because transferring it to the alliance really had no point. Now, all of a sudden, to access a whole new set of powerful skills which I would very much like to put to use in HM, I need to spend hours grinding AB or killing in the wilderness just to get the first rank. Not a happy me.

You talk to the Kurzick/Luxon Priest that's next to the res shrines and pay the 100 gold bribe. If the priest is of the other faction beforehand (i.e. you're luxon and the priest is kurzick), you'll have to pay the bribe to activate the shrine first, then the bribe for the blessing.

Personally, I think one bribe should cover both, but I can easily make up the 200g with a full hero/hench party running around killing mobs. Haven't tried this in hard mode yet, but it would make an awesome way to rake in faction while vanquishing an area in hard mode. Now if I had the people to do this...

I find linking any attribute boosts and skills to titles annoying because its forcing players to grind the same areas over and over* to get to the parts they actually want to play. Currently the reason I'm sticking with guild wars is that compared to other MMO's, there is much less grinding.
But if ANET keeps making title linked skills, this reason becomes weaker as they are killing one of the unique features guild wars has. So the more ANET introduces title based skills, the more likely they are to drive me to playing another game.

*Some titles, like Sunspear, aren't as bad for grinding as others because you get them reasonably high over the normal course of playing the campaign, certinally high enough to be able to know if you will like the skills or not. But the factions titles force you to grind before they even let you know how the skills feel to use.

As for people wanting to be reimbursed for the faction they spent not knowing about this, there are two suggestion threads about that:
Kurzicks/Luxons title system Retro the Faction earned
Work the friends titles on faction earned, not faction spent.

My thoughts on each can be found within those threads.

pve skills that are earned via pvp.....I am purely pve player, and having to force myself to do pvp just to get skills for pve is.... lack of a better term, stupid.

or i could just do those arean runs repeatly to earn luxon factions like i used to...

fast faction farming in pve is even faster than ABing for points. 3000 faction to unlock a skill isnt much. what is bad is the skills cant be used in PVP.

imo title based skills are nice cos they give extra benefit for those who use their time to earn it. at least its better then just having a title beneath your name.

I was thinking about this and I think the best places will be the near end game parts in HM. There are nine in Mourning Veil Falls and Morostav Trail. That's 9*250+250=2500 faction, plus anything over and above 25 monters slain. Eternal Grove has 7 bosses. Although for time sake, you'd probably be looking for a run that could kill 25 monters then a boss or two in a short period of time. We'd need to do some research, but I'm sure we can find such a spot. Shame there aren't any wurms in Cantha...

I've got some 177,000 Kurzick faction spent on amber. If that were Grandfathered in for the title it would be very, very helpful for getting these titles...otherwise it's going to be a hell of a long time before I start picking up these skills.

Since the game does keep track of Faction earned, why not try to apply the same or similar rules for what players already accomplished? Why disenfranchise existing players?

In this case, one reason might be that there will that group of players who donated lots of faction previously without getting the benefit of amber/jade who would've if the titles were based on faction earned rather than donated.

One suggestion would be that at least the rank 1 qualification to obtain the skills in the first place be based on a faction-earned restriction rather than a faction-donated restriction, but the effectiveness remain based on the donated faction title ranks (even with the expanded ways of "donating" faction going forward).

wtb: Title goes off faction EARNED, like others have already suggested.

I'll never bother maxing a 10 mil faction title, but a lot of people weren't even lucky enough to hit tier 1 with the change. o.O

Anet, please give us factions points for completing Urgoz or The Deep

Example
Normal Mode: 2500 factions
Hard Mode: 5000 factions

I find it a little ridiculous I have to drag in 15k faction a day for 667 days to max out 8 skills for PVE.... I mean honestly, if you want it to go that fast you're pretty much stuck with AB. If you lose usually you get between 300-600 points, if you win 1k. Vanquishing a zone on HM for about the same takes 10X as long. So we CAN do PVE bounties for them, it'll just take us the rest of our lives. SS skills are great, you can hit rank 10 SS in a week of leisurely play. I never understand how they can do awesome stuff, then something totally screwball the same day to tarnish the good stuff.
